A friend of mine has made an interesting urban research documentary film at Columbia University. I would like to screen it either as a part of another class or as an event of its own. We can do this at my working space in Katajanokka anytime!

*Cities of Preferences* is a short documentary film which
addresses the spatial organization of communities within the modern city,
and presents the neighborhood segregation model developed by Thomas
Schelling, a 2005 Nobel Laureate in Economics. In addition, the film
illustrates some of the culturally rich enclaves found across the boroughs
of New York City to reflect upon the positive and negative aspects of
segregation and congregation and how designers might engage with this
phenomenon.

Everyone brings a bunch of old, weird, broken or for any reason discarded clothes. The ones who have a sewing machine, bring one, and everyone else brings all kinds of sewing equipment and related stuff: needles, thread, tape, scissors... but also other tools or decoration that could be used in cloth experiments.
The old clothes are presented to everyone and redistributed. Everyone picks up a couple of items and redesigns them into a new outfit! Experimental techniques are tried out, fun and new ideas for combining clothes are the main thing.
A launch party to celebrate the website and the starting of the events! There we would also collect new class proposals with the printed flyers. Possibly next week combined to an event in Ptarmigan on Friday. To be discussed!

more..Graphic website design with basic tools (+flash?). Based on the idea that everyone on the class is building their own website and needs basic tools to begin with. Everyone would upload the suggested program and bring their own laptop. The class could meet up a couple of times to give tutoring in the course of finalizing everyone's websites.
Nettisivun suunnittelu ja laatiminen perustyökaluilla + mahd. flashin opettelu. Jokainen opetukseen osallistuva rakentaa omaa nettisivuaan opetuksen aikana. Osallistujat lataavat ennalta opettajan ilmoittamat ohjelmat koneelleen ja tuovat läppärin mukanaan. Porukka voisi tavata muutaman kerran nettisivuprojektin edetessä jakamaan hyviä neuvoja toisilleen.
Inarin toiveen mukaan:
1) Kuinka värit vaikuttavat ihmisen mielialoihin alitajuisesti tai tietoisesti, mitä kulttuurisia assosiaatioita eri väreihin liittyy - mahd. eri väriteorioita

I cycle everywhere (when the streets aren't covered in ice) but when it comes time to adjust my brake pads, fine-tine my mechs or straighten my wheels, I'm totally and hopelessly lost.
This would be a basic class to demonstrate these techniques and other basic care such as cleaning, etc. Presumably this would be done using the minimum of tools, so people can keep their bikes running smoothly without having to shell out lots of €€€ on specialised equipment.
