This group will explore Helsinki's foraging, urban food and gathering systems, while learning how to find information about wild plants, found materials, cultural traditions, support networks. There is no teacher within the group: Each person is responsible for suggesting directions, actions, experts and activities for the others to follow under the broad topic of 'urban foraging'.
The start of the course has been influenced by warm-up events in Herbologies/Foraging Networks programme of Pixelache Helsinki Festival.

Early September 2010 - "Urbaani Sadonorjuupyöräily" / "Urban harvesting cycling tour":
Joel Rosenberg will offer a tour of the city, by bike, visiting spots where nuts, berries and other fruits can be collected. This is happening with the Dodo organsation <www.dodo.org>, and all who are interested are welcome.
There is a possible extension here to learn about fruit preservation and other forms of processing fresh foods also.

I am not sure when you hope to start this course, but there could be connection with the Herbologies/Foraging Networks activity..

I also proposed to Ptarmigan that I could facilitate a Clip Kino event (www.clipkino.info) on the topic of dyykkaus/dumpster-diving/foraging in connection, and this could also be done in connection with this course.

Happy to report that this Clip Kino event will now go ahead on 17.3 from 19. as a kick-start to this group's interest.
