Good news for all bread, pizza, and oven enthusiasts!

The cob oven-building workshop will take place during the first week of August, divided into two phases: the design/ planning phase, and the actual building phase. In between, we will organize and retrieve the materials needed together.
The design phase will be a relaxed meeting at the Hub in the city centre on Wednesday, 4th of August, at 5 pm. Feel free to bring any info ma...terial, photos or stories on oven building with you! We will most probably be joined by some professional oven builders who will share their knowledge, all other information can be retrieved from the Internet. You can bring your own laptop if at hand, otherwise, there are some computers at the Hub we may use. We plan to get all building materials for free, e.g. sand and bricks from construction sites, and clay from nature in the Helsinki area.

Semiotext(e)’s Intervention Series offers polemical texts by intellectual agitators. Short, engaged, and highly focused manifestos, essays, and critiques, these palm-sized salvos address a variety of political and cultural topics but share a passion for provocation, and allow for more immediate excursions in Semiotext(e)’s ongoing mission of intellectual activism.

in this class we will read and discuss all six books in the intervention series. we will meet and discuss the books one at a time and in the order of their release (the coming insurrection, the screwball asses, the violence of financial capitalism, introduction to civil war, a thousand machines, the agony of power).

This class is envisioned as a discussion reading group which focuses on reading texts by Gilles Deleuze (as the starting point), meeting together as a group every two to three weeks in order to discuss a chosen text. The aim will be to share variable interpretations of the given text, to consider each others viewpoints, and to also look at how the text may relate to each participants individual life philosophy, research, and interests.

This reading group is envisioned to be an ongoing seminar which can evolve according to participants collective interests, predominately it is aimed to be a supportive space to engage with critical ideas, and to foster variable understandings of the texts which will be discussed.

Mushroom season is coming up and I would like to learn about which mushroom in the finnish forests are edible. This would include learning a few different types of mushrooms that are edible and tasty.  As well as techniques for scouting and picking them.

I would also be interested to learn what to do with the buckets of mushrooms I have picked if I can't eat them all. Drying and preserving techniques.

This class could happen a few times and should be in the forest.  Maybe at the end we can have a big mushroom cookoff!

It would be fantastic to have a Helsinki-based version of this class:  http://la.thepublicschool.org/class/1984

(I have not copied the proposal as it would be quite different, including the title, obviously!)

I envision this as a class that meets maybe once per month, each time with a different 'teacher' meeting in a different space across the city.  The teacher of that particular week can organise tours around the physical spaces we discuss, and the class (like the Los Angeles one) would focus on spectres -- things that have disappeared, places that have been changed and altered through the inevitable stages of "progress".

Any appropriate readings could be passed around and discussed, likely in Finnish (I only propose this in English because I don't speak Finnish, but please, run this class in your own language!  It's about Helsinki, after all!)
